Reports and Indices: July to September 2026
Report questions are the easiest marks in current affairs, one number, one publishing body, one India angle. Here are the two releases that will be tested, each with its number and its static connection.
1. UN Sustainable Development Report 2026 (July 2026)
The number
India ranked 94th of 167 countries in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index, its highest-ever position, released with the National Indicator Framework (NIF) 2026, which tracks 277 national SDG indicators across all 17 goals.
What to remember
- Publishing body: Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) / UN; released in India with NITI Aayog and the UN Resident Coordinator
- The report measures progress on the 2030 Agenda's 17 SDGs
- NITI Aayog is India's nodal agency for SDG localisation (SDG India Index at the State level)
Static link: SDG Index ≠ SDG India Index. The global report ranks countries; NITI Aayog's SDG India Index ranks States and UTs (in 2023–24, Kerala and Uttarakhand jointly topped with a score of 79).
2. IMF World Economic Outlook Update (8 July 2026)
The numbers
| Metric | Projection |
|---|---|
| Global growth 2026 | 3.0 percent |
| Global growth 2027 | 3.4 percent |
| India FY 2026–27 | 6.4 percent (trimmed) |
| India 2027 | 6.7 percent (raised) |
How to read it
The IMF lowered India's fiscal-year growth estimate for 2026–27 while raising the 2027 outlook, a "trim now, better next year" pattern. Global growth was left broadly unchanged from the April 2026 WEO.
Static link: the IMF publishes the WEO twice a year (April and October) with Updates in between; the IMF's Article IV consultation produces the country-level report for India. The WEO is not the same as the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects.
The quarter's other number
RBI's August 2026 policy documents project FY 2026–27 CPI inflation at 5.0 percent and GDP growth at 6.7 percent, the domestic pair that Prelims often confuses with the IMF's 6.4 percent. Keep the three numbers separate: IMF 6.4, RBI 6.7, Q1 actual 7.8.
Prelims traps

| "The IMF and RBI growth numbers for FY27 are identical" | False. IMF 6.4 percent, RBI 6.7 percent |
